so CUTE! in both ways. =D

something thought-provoking. my bro is out right now at church sleeping over. he claims that firstly, he can't come back because it's a waste of travelling time. secondly, he has a new friend and he cant leave him to someone else.

my parents said: sometimes you've got to put your evangelistic acts aside to concentrate on your studies.

is that true? does evangelism ever take a backseat?

my first reaction was no way man. i mean, that's our primary purpose for living, the Great Commission. we're commanded to spread the gospel and baptise everyone in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. i know studies are important, but shouldnt we always keep a clear focus on the main goals in life?

but while starting on this post i suddenly thought back to when Jesus was a kid. there was this whole fuss about him as a cute lil baby boy in a manger, a mention of him saying he must be about his Father's business at the tender age of 12, and the next time he was mentioned was when he was a fully matured 30 year old. why such big time lapses?

we'll never know what Jesus was doing specifically during that time. he might have been helping out with his father's carpentry business, going to the nearby school if they had those at that time, helping out at home... but one thing we do know, Jesus was "growing in stature and in favour with God and man." now that's one thing acsi has successfully drilled into me with all those chapel services. and also that acsi boys are great achievers and wonderful gentlemen. which i am still hoping that that's something my brother will one day become.

anyway, then i thought that maybe that's Jesus way of "putting aside" evangelism for that time. because he was concentrating on growing closer to God and learning more that would aid him in his ministry later on in life.

and that passage about seasons in life from Ecclesiastes (coincidentally, name of my 5.13 class in acsi!) came to mind too.

there's a time for everything...

well. i was getting quite sad at the thought that for once, i wouldnt have a proper conclusion for a post musing about God and life. i like to take stands on things. sitting on the fence just hurts your butt. particularly you have alot of muscles in your butt that must be taken care of. HAHA.

but i've made my decision. i think that yes, there are certain points in life when you have to reorder your priorities. right now, for my j2 brother, studies are definitely number one. it makes no sense to serve so much in church as an usher. it is really time consuming cos i know he has to reach church much earlier and leave later than he normally has to when he's serving, and it takes up precious study time. not that im saying he should quit ushering wholesale. but maybe, stop volunteering for extra work if possible.

and i think that whole reordering-priorities-thing holds for evangelism as well. similarly, its not as if you have to stop evangelising. but you can change your methods of doing so. even when you invite your friend to church, but you know you cant hang around for too long, maybe you could leave him with another friend. it's not an ideal situation, but i guess it cant be helped.

having personally experienced first hand all the restrictions my parents are trying to impose on my bro (not necessarily succeeding though), ive had enough warning and i know what im in for next year :S
